DANN, VANDERVEER, ROGERS, HUDSON, HODGSON

Working a little bit on the DANN family of Hannibal, Oswego Co., NY. One of the daughters married my great uncle William VANDERVEER, an undertaker, of Warners, NY., no children.

Doing census and newspaper research on the Nathan Vickery ROGERS (1859-1936) family of Hannibal and Granby, Oswego county. Nathan's wife was Mary (HUDSON/HODGSON) (1871-1939), daughter of Orville HUDSON/HODGSON and Jennie (TAYLOR.)

Through the use of Godfrey's FindUSA, Ancestry's SSDI, National Gravesite Locator, and newspapers of Minneapolis on-line, I have been attempting to obtain information on a man named Capt. Philander “Phil” HODGSON, who was born in 1910 and died in 1991, was a Captain in the U.S. Army and served in WW II. He is buried along with his wife Elaine O. (1913-2002) in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., MN.

The unusual name of Philander is one that is the same as a brother of one of my 2nd great grandfathers who went west after the Civil War and I'm just wondering if there is a connection

VANDERVEER, HILLENBRAND, COSTELLO, GIFFORD, CHASE, GORNEY, OpenOffice.org

Well I have been working on many different genealogy projects lately and need to update my BLOG.

VANDERVEER, my grandmother's family. Have been updating items on relatively modern people by using 1920, 1930 census, FindUSA on Godfrey.org, newspaper obits in digital format and jpg images of newspaper pages from Godfrey, as well as jpg format from the Post Standard Archive.

Many of these I have been transcribing and then entering into my Legacy genealogy program. It is just amazing the amount of data that is coming on-line from either free access or subscription service.

I have not yet updated my website at www.ny-genes.com but intend to soon. There will not be too many changes because the more modern details are not published on the website, but are available to those that are closely related through contact by email at nygenes@gmail.com

Other surnames worked on recently: HILLENBRAND, COSTELLO, GIFFORD, CHASE, GORNEY, and others too numerous to mention at this time.

At the suggestion of Dick Eastman at www.eogn.com I have decided to try the new version 2.0 of OpenOffice. This is a fast program that replaces the MICROSOFT Office family of products, and it is totally FREE! It has the ability to open and save files in the MS format if needed and seems to be working OK so far. If you want to try it yourself here is the link. http://www.openoffice.org/
