Lectures and Programs by Dick Hillenbrand

I recently updated the Programs and Lectures page on our main website for Upstate New York Genealogy at www.unyg.com and decided to post here on the Blog site also. If anyone is interested in engaging a top rate speaker, I can recommend this man highly.

Richard “Dick” Hillenbrand of the Syracuse area has been an avid historical and genealogical researcher since the 1960’s. He served on the Board of Directors of the Onondaga Historical Association for twenty years and also has served on the Board of the Central New York Genealogical Society. He is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG).

He has lectured and given genealogical programs for several New York State based genealogical and historical societies, church groups, and community service clubs and has taught Basic Genealogical Research courses for the Adult Continuing Education system.

Dick has been using computers for genealogical purposes since 1979 and has a background in the use of computers for industrial automation systems.

The following are programs that Dick will be presenting in the year 2008:

New York State Archives of Albany, NY. Genealogy Seminar,

New York State United Teachers Retirees of Central New York.
March 2008: “Setting the Hook”. (Basic Genealogy Starter Lecture) (completed)

May meeting: “Brick Wall Battering Rams”

Capital District Genealogical Society, (CDGS) Albany, NY.,
2008, Program: “Brick Wall Battering Rams”

(Other dates still available for group lectures.)

If your group would like a talk tailored to a specific subject or theme, please contact me and we will accommodate. One of the most popular talks is “Internet Genealogy”. (The latest up to the minute websites and tools are described in detail.)

Dick operates the popular website: Upstate New York Genealogy at www.unyg.com and also has an award winning Blog site.

Glad to see Dick doing presentations to share his vast knowledge. On Sat, April 5, 2008, our local Trent Valley Archives is doing a Genealogy Conference
(pre-registration necessary). (Dick, you might like to attend)

Here is the info:

Discover your ancestors during a day of workshops and lectures on military records, loyalist immigration, researching the use of land records, document conservation and more! A special guest speaker will be Rick Roberts (from Global Genealogy) who will
help you decide which genealogy software is best for you. Books, software and other items will be sold by various vendors throughout the day. Cost for the day is $35. Lunch will be available at a nominal cost. Vendors can have
a table for $10 to sell their material. Contact the Archives to register for this event or have a table for the marketplace.

Trent Valley Archives is in Peterborough, ON (there are many connections with Upstate NY thru Irish and Loyalist emigration). Connect to their website at: www.trentvalleyarchives.com

Regards,
Ruth K
