BAKER - CHASE - OCD

Had a nice Email chat with Bonnie Baker Weber in Canada, another of the BAKER research group that has been working so hard. She is willing to come to a gathering if we get one going. I’ll start looking into details.

I’ve started to key in some of the BAKER raw details into my database with the hopes that we can connect it at some time in the future.

Added some more details on descendants of Jonathan CHASE (1760-1847), Seth CHASE’s son.

Updated a large amount of materials on the CHASEs on the OCD collection.

Herrington BAKER, Halifax, VT, OCD

Started a Time Line document for Harrington/Herrington BAKER (1756-1833).

Sent a query to the Town of Halifax, VT Historical Publications committee who are working on a Town of Halifax History book that is scheduled for release this winter. Asked if any BAKER information is in it and if they have anyone that would be willing to do local research for a fee.

In contact with Loretta Bates at the Washington County Historian’s Office. Turns out she is descended from these BAKERs also.

Made new labels for the “Families of the Old Cambridge District” Family Group Sheet books. It is kind of funny how this little project started about twenty five years ago. I had several ancestors that had lived in the Town of White Creek so I started working on their neighbors. Once I really got going I realized that in order to do it right I should record everything I could find on the immediate surrounding area and the logical target would be the south east corner of Washington County, and it’s immediate surrounding towns, of course.

Corresponded with Ken Hoxie on his wife's lines of descent from Seth CHASE's son Jonathan. He is also related through the WING family.

BAKER - Exeter, RI

Delivered Terri to the airport to go see her sister in California for a couple of weeks.

Ordered two rolls of microfilm at the Family History Center in Whitesboro. Town of Exeter, Rhode Island Town Records (1742-1818.) These should be the same books that Arnold abstracted the published series of vital records from.

Looked at the Rhode Island Vital Records microfiche set for Exeter and found the following information. BAKER Births: [Ch. of] Elisha and Sarah; Dorcas May 18, 1754, David Dec. 6, 1755, Harrington Oct. 8, 1756, and *Christian* May 18, 1758. Note: this Christian’s date of birth is the exact same date that we have for my 4th great grandmother Elizabeth (BAKER) CHASE “of Shaftsbury, VT. (and later of White Creek, Washington Co., NY.) There is a possibility that the actual handwritten town record might say whether or not Christian is a boy or girl. Hopefully.

Arnold’s Exeter births also shows the children of Elisha’s brother, Samuel S. BAKER and h/w Abigail as; Benjamin Jan. 21, 1749, Amos Feb. 2, 1750, Thomas Oct. 29, 1751, Ruth Feb. 24, 1753, John July 16, 1759, Peleg May 23, 1761, and Mehitable March 10, 1764.

Worked a little on the Cambridge 1800 census and John BAKER’s Rev War Pension file.

Elizabeth BAKER (1758-1793) White Creek, NY

Johnny Carson died.

It looks like the “Betsey” daughter of Samuel S. BAKER of Exeter, RI, Halifax and Shaftsbury, VT., and Hebron, NY, is the only possibility that I have ever found that fits as a candidate for our Elizabeth BAKER, wife of my 4th great grandfather Daniel CHASE. Will order some Town of Exeter colonial records on microfilm from LDS and see if we can locate her birth record. We do have her date of birth exactly from Daniel CHASE’s pocket account book family record. Looks like a possible breakthrough. Thanks to several BAKER researchers that I have been in contact with lately.

BAKER / CHASE / PICASA 2.0 / System crashing

Sent a couple of BAKER queries out to Thomas Dunne and John Komar.

Wow! Hit the jackpot. Tom Dunne, Michelle Burke. John Komar, and others have been doing a serious study of the BAKER families.

Tom sent me a ton of material on his Samuel S. BAKER line and I have to spend some time to absorb it. This might lead to a breakthrough on my Elizabeth BAKER of Shaftsbury, VT., that married Daniel CHASE (1755-1838).

Wow! Michelle Morristte-Burke also got in touch and sent a huge update to the STEVENS/BAKER/CHASE lines which changes several lines that have previously been reported in the decendency of Daniel CHASE’s daughter Sarah CHASE, who evidently married a different Allen STEVENS than the Allen R. STEVENS previously reported. I will be pouring over all of these materials for some time and attempt to correct my Seth CHASE posting on my website.

My system has been crashing lately when attempting to do heavy disk activities at the same time, such as virus scan and write to CDROM. I have run several anti-virus programs and Spyware /Pest patrol type utilities and nothing too serious has been discovered. Perhaps a new hard disk is called for?

At the suggestion of Google and after reading a review on eogn about Picassa 2.0 I installed it and am amazed with the images and maps I found on my hard drive that I had totally forgotten about. Will be working with that for a while also.

HILLENBRAND / MIMMACK / RIVETT & Al SMITH

Finally located probable indication of my Aunt Elsie (poss MIMMACK) HILLENBRAND, the wife of Jacob J. HILLENBRAND of Central Square.

For years we have pondered on whether or not MIMMICK/MIMMACK was her maiden name or not. Through the online Syracuse Newspaper subscription I have I found Uncle Jake’s obit in 1962 that lists her as Elsie “RIVETT” HILLENBRAND. We knew she was from Oswego County, NY., and had some family up there. So found her on the 1900 and 1910 census and her father’s name was Claude RIVETT and her mother’s name was Lena B.

She evidently had been married quite young to someone named MIMMACK because she is found with that name in 1930 working at the Onondaga County Home for the Aged, which is just down the road from where Dad & Jake were born and lived.

Worked on Al SMITH’s immediate family.
