Scanning postcards - Snow up here

I have been scanning many more postcards from various Upstate locations and will be posting them on the website soon. The arrangement will be by “county – location – file number”. This will be a long time project that I will be working with off and on. I think you will get some good use out of them.

We have about a foot and a half of new snow in the driveway and I have to make the decision, to either go and snow-blow the driveway or play on the computer.

Decision made. Brrrr. Stayin’ in.

1846 Town of Vernon Tax List Now on Website - Wayne County Historian

If you read the Newsletter, you will find an all name index to the 1846 Town of Vernon, Oneida County, NY Assessors Tax List. Well we have scanned the complete original book and all of the images are now up on the website. Click the button marked “DATA / IMAGES”, then click “Oneida County”, “Oneida County Data.”

While you are at it you will find our first attempt at putting up postcard images under Oneida County Views”. We have access to many thousands of Upstate New York Postcards and we are in the process of scanning them now.

Right now everything is available and all still free of course. In the future we may limit some of the data and provide higher quality images to the subscribers of the Newsletter only. So you should subscribe now and be ready for the good stuff coming up.

There is no charge for the Newsletter.

I had a very nice chat with Mr. Peter Evans, the Wayne County, NY Historian. His office in Lyons, NY is very active and they are most helpful to genealogical researchers. I intend to feature individual county resources and facilities in forthcoming Newsletters, but it will behoove you to visit their website if you are doing Wayne County research.

Peter tells me that it is not unusual to be putting up new details on the website 2 or 3 times a day!

Nesletter and Subscribers - LINUX

Still receiving many kind words about the Newsletter and thank you very much to all that take the time to write.

More subscribers keep coming in all the time, so we will try to do some more mailings in groups as they accumulate. If you get a duplicate mailing please advise us because that means we have your address in multiple databases which we do not want to do if possible. Next month’s mailing should go smoother because we have a plan for a better system.

Hey we live, we learn…

We had a notice from one subscriber that is using LINUX ubuntu operating system, that he having some formatting problems while viewing the website. We do not know exactly what to do about this at this time because we know nothing about LINUX and can not test it. The website was designed with JOOMLA! On Windows based machines and we have tested it with Firefox, Netscape, Opera, Internet Explorer, various versions of some of the previous, and even on a Mac. Everything seems to look fine to us.

If any readers are experiencing any glitches while viewing our website it would be very helpful if you would please let us know and we will try look into it.

Thanks.
